The Passion Of The Messiah: The Crucifixion

Sequence of events proceeding Jesus’ death:

• They led Jesus to Golgatha – place of the skull
• They nailed him to the cross
• Jesus refused with mixed with gall
• The soldiers cast lots for His clothing

Jesus spoke from the cross 7 times:

1. Luke 23:33-38 “Father, forgive them…”
2. Luke 23:39-43 “Today, you shall be with me…”
3. John 19:26-27 “Behold, your mother…”
4. Matthew 27:45-46 “My God, My God…”
5. John 19:28-29 “I am thirty.”
6. John 19:30 “It is finished.”
7. Luke 23:46 “Father, into your hands…”

Sequence of events following Jesus’ death;

• The temple veil was torn from top to bottom
• There was am earthquake
• Tombs were opened,  bodies of saints were raised
• Centurion said, “Truly this man was the son of God”
• Women followers of Jesus watched from a distance
• Request to break the legs of those crucified because of the sabbath
• Pierced Jesus’ side with a spear proving His death
• Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus place the body of Jesus in the tomb
